SIMON Cowell shows some rare emotion and is moved to tears by a dog saved from being eaten.
The entire Britain’s Got Talent judging panel got emotional over Miracle the dog who was rescued from Thailand’s illegal meat trade.
Miracle – who performed magic on the talent show – had his life saved after being crammed in a cage with 1,000 other dogs.
Award-winning dog rescuer Amanda Leask rescued the mixed breed pooch, who is not only a talented performer but helps bring comfort to her son Kyle who has cerebral palsy and autism.
She told the judges: “Miracle has been at the heart of our family for six years, but he wasn’t always as happy and healthy as he is today.
“He spent the early part of his life in unimaginable conditions as a victim of the dog meat trade.”
Amanda then shared the shocking fact Miracle almost didn’t get saved because the rescuer thought he was dead.
She said: “When the rescuer first saw him she thought he was dead, but when her camera flashed, he opened an eye. It was a miracle he was still alive.
“We brought him back to Scotland and slowly nurtured him back to health.”
Simon and his fellow BGT judges – Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon – were overcome with emotion and moved to tears.
Amanda won the RSPCA’s Rescue Animal of the Year and Crufts Friends For Life award for her dog rescue work.
She explained on BGT that she had read about the illegal meat trade in Thailand but it wasn’t until seeing Miracle’s photo that she fell in love and describes him as a “dog that refused to die”.
The mum try to find him for almost two months and eventually tracked him down at a Thai rescue centre.
She then had him flown to her home in Edinburgh where he became a very important part of the family, especially with her son Kyle.
Amanda said: “If Kyle becomes upset by a situation such as too many people invading his space, Miracle will go to him and let him grab the fur on the back of his neck for comfort.”
An BGT insider told The Mirror: “It is a very special audition. All the judges love dogs and they are won over by Miracle.”
The illegal dog meat trade is described as one of “the most serious animal welfare issues in Asia”, according to rescue charity Soi Dog.
The charity says the dogs are not humanely killed because they are tortured for hours and then skinned alive because people believe “pain inflicted leads to the tenderising of the meat”.
The emotional audition comes as Amanda Holden confirms the beloved talent show would return later this year.
The ITV star, 49, said she was told by production to keep “early autumn” free for filming after the coronavirus pandemic forced them to postponed their live shows for the current series.
Speaking to HuffPost UK, she said: “But we would never do it without an audience because we’ve always said the British public is the fifth judge.
“So we can’t do it without them – it would be no fun without them! We’ll see what happens, but we are planning to do it this year.”
