England supporter dies in Bulgaria after being found in a helpless condition hours before Three Lions match in Sofia

AN England fan has died in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia hours before tonight’s Euro qualifier.

The 32-year-old supporter was reportedly found in a “helpless condition” as thousands of Three Lions fans flocked to the city.

He was discovered in the city centre at 10am today and died in hospital.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Interior said: “The incident took place at 10am today. He is a British citizen, 32 years old.

“At 10am and he was taken to hospital but he has died and the police are now working to clarify all the circumstances.”

Police told the Daily Telegraph the man was “found in a helpless condition” but they cannot confirm local reports he may have taken drugs.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: Our staff are supporting a British man following an incident in Sofia and are in contact with the Bulgarian Police,”

England boss Gareth Southgate is set to drop three defenders as he looks to bounce back from Fridays 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic.
