THE past week has been a pretty emotional one for Phillip Schofield and last night was no different as he returned to the small screen since coming out as gay.

The father-of-two was joined by co-host Holly Willoughby as he presented the latest episode of Dancing On Ice, and ended up crying.

Phillip Schofield was in tears before the cameras started rolling on Dancing On Ice

Phillip, 57, was met with a standing ovation before the cameras started rolling and was overcome with emotion.

According to The Mirror, a source said: “Holly Willoughby and Phil walked on to the set to welcome the audience and the crowd went mad and were whooping and cheering.
“It was such an emotional moment that it brought Phil to tears. It means so much to him and he just let it all out.”

Phillip managed to compose himself by the time the cameras started rolling, but was close to tears again when judge Ashley Banjo praised him at the beginning of the show.

Phillip was supported by Holly when he became tearful after receiving a standing ovation

He told him: “Phil, its been a big week, a big, big week. Youve always been an absolute legend but never, never, ever more so than this week, my friend.

“I think I speak on behalf of all of us when I say weve got nothing but love and respect for you.”

Looking genuinely touched, the This Morning host replied jokingly: “Its not about me. Its not about me,” as Holly placed her arm around him.

According to reports, in between his interview on Friday and presenting Dancing on Ice on Sunday, Phillip has been having heart-to-heart talks with his wife Stephanie Lowe.

Phillip announced he was gay on This Morning last Friday

The couple are still living together in their home in Henley, Oxon, and are said to be on good terms.

A source said: “Its somewhat unconventional but they are still living together and very much a united front.

“Of course its been terribly hard but they are trying to work through their problems together. You cant just erase 27 years of marriage.”

The TV star said he has had the full support of his wife Steph and their two daughters

Phillip also opened up to The Sun on Sunday in an exclusive interview since making the announcement, and sadly admitted he considered suicide at his lowest point.

He said he was pulled back from the brink of suicide by the strength of his loving wife Steph, 56, and their daughters Molly, 26, and Ruby, 24.

“There is no doubt living with this kind of secret can take people to the darkest of places,” he revealed.

“And there is no question for me it got very dark, because it felt hopeless.”

Phillip has been married to his wife Stephanie for 27 years

He continued: “There isno question, in those moments, when I couldnt see a way forward, it was Steph and my girls through their strength who hauled me back.

“But I understand completely why so many men and women in this country get to the point of suicide.

“I had Steph and I had my girls and I dont think I could have left them like that. But if I hadnt have had their support, then who knows?”
