He said he didn’t know he would be joined on the interview by his fiance Steph Jones and their newborn son Albert.

Danny has feared he would be criticised for leaving his son weeks after he was born to go into the I’m A Celebrity castle.

However, last night he was crowned the 2021 champion, ahead of fellow ITV stars Simon Gregson and Frankie Bridge.

Throwing his head back and wiping tears from his eyes Danny told host Lorraine Kelly: “I wasn’t expecting this.

“This is a set-up, Lorraine. The whole reason I did [I’m A Celeb] was because I wanted to show the country I wasn’t just Aaron off Emmerdale.

“Steph was the reason for me doing it – she pushed me forward. She was the reason I did it, her and Albert.”

Continuing to cry, he told her: “This is the worst interview you’re ever going to give in your life.”

In a refreshingly honest admission, he said he did I’m A Celebrity for the money, saying he wanted to put his family on a sound financial footing.

He explained: “This show gave me the financial security to do it. I’m not going to shy away from that – I did it to financial security for my family.”

Danny told Steph: “I’m doing to see you this afternoon I promise you, I love you so much.”

Posting after he won the show Steph told how Danny feared a backlash for leaving his son behind.

She wrote: “From all the anxiety he had before starting the show in regards to the public’s opinion in regards to his decision to do the show so close to Alberts birth, he now must know that the public love him as much as his friends and family and I hope this gives him the boost of confidence he needs in life going forward.

“No matter what the result he’s been amazing to watch from start to finish, he’s made everyone proud and he’s the best Daddy Albert could ever wish for.”
