CHRIS Hughes was praised for his “brave” BBC documentary about male fertility as fans thank the star for “raising awareness”.

The Love Island star’s, 27, BBC documentary Me, My Brother and Our Balls aired on TV this evening after premiering on iPlayer last month.

Chris and Ben Hughes were praised for the documentary

The show explored male fertility issues, with Chris‘ brother Ben devastated to learn that he isn’t producing sperm after beating testicular cancer – and that he and his girlfriend Olivia might not be able to have kids naturally.

Viewers heaped praised on Chris and Ben for their honest portrayal of fertility and male sexual health on the documentary.

Springwatch presenter Megan McCubbin said: “Huge respect to @chrishughes_22 and his brother, Ben, for their honest and thought provoking documentary on male fertility. It’s so important everyone feels comfortable talking about these topics! #MeMyBrotherandOurBalls”

Towie’s Mario Falcone said: “What a fantastic show…. very brave and will help so many men. Check your balls chaps #MeMyBrotherandOurBalls”

One viewer said: “Chris and Ben Hughes, take a bow. Men’s testicular health and fertility are overlooked so often so to be that vulnerable and honest on camera will help so so many men and their partners. What a fantastic documentary #MeMyBrotherandOurBalls”

Another added: “Big up @chrishughes_22 & his brother for this brilliant documentary on bbc one here! So important and great raising of awareness #MeMyBrotherAndOurBalls”

In the episode, Chris spoke about how he felt his sperm is “wasted” after splitting from Jesy Nelson as his brother struggles with fertility.

The special was filmed when Chris and Little Mix star Jesy were still together, and the pair were thrilled when doctors confirmed that Chris did not have the same issue despite having his own testicular concerns.

However, at the end of the episode Chris confessed that he felt guilty about his fertility health as a single man.

He explained: “I just think it’s so unfair that I was given the good news that I have healthy sperm, active sperm and now that I’m single it feels kind of wasted because you’ve got a couple in Ben and Olivia who are so ready to make that commitment.

“It just feels that life is unfair.”

In the show, Chris and Jesy spoke about being together forever and having lots of children – but Jesy insisted she wouldn’t be fazed if he was infertile.

She explained: “I just want to be with Chris for the rest of my life, he’s the one that makes me happy – whether we had kids or not if won’t affect anything.

“All I can do is just be there for him and someone that loves him just keep an eye on him and hopefully it will be alright.”

Chris was told he had a low sperm-count after being diagnosed with varicoceles – a testicular vein condition – when he was younger.

The reality star underwent three operations to deal with the condition and he has also made the decision to freeze his sperm.

Chris said he felt guilty for having better fertility

In the documentary, doctors revealed that the quality of his sperm has improved thanks to the surgeries, and Chris is heard reassuring his ex-girlfriend that they could have “three or four babies”.

He shared: “I’ve just got to tell her the good news. It’s been a worry for us both, so.

“Oh Jessica, I have a lot of sperm and they’re very, very active. I’m really happy.”

To which, Jesy replied: “Yay, so we can have lots of babies?” and Chris answered: “I think we can probably have three or four.”

Jesy and Chris broke up in lockdown

Sadly, the pair split five months later, after 16 months together; meanwhile, Ben and his girlfriend are still together and desperate to start a family.

Chris has since found love with somebody else, with HOAR exclusively revealing in August that the Love Island hunk is dating stunning model Mary Bedford.

Meanwhile, Jesy is loved-up with Our Girl hunk Sean Sagar.
