DR Alex George says he goes home in tears after fighting coronavirus on the NHS front lines as he paid tribute to his “amazing” girlfriend.
The 30-year-old A&E is one of the many NHS staff combating coronavirus at Lewisham Hospital.
The Love Island star appeared on Lorraine to shine a light on the mental toll fighting the pandemic has on NHS staff and revealed he goes home in tears some nights.
But while he revealed his own mental health battle, he credited his “amazing” girlfriend Amelia Bath for listening to his problems.
He told Lorraine: “There have been some difficult times. There’s been days where Ive been coming home very upset and in tears at the things I’ve seen.
“That’s being completely honest. I’m quite open to speak to my colleagues at work. We’ve got a wellness room, which actually we can kind of go to if things get a bit difficult. I have a little bit time alone. Or speak to a colleague or a friend and go through what you’re experiencing.
“Family is very important too, my girlfriend has been amazing, I’ve spoken to her about certain things as well.”
Dr Alex hasn’t seen dancer Amelia, 25, in five weeks as they are isolating separately.
The pair met in a bar in December 2018.
The reality star was “moved to tears” after observing the minute’s silence to honour the key workers who lost their lives to COVID-19 on Tuesday.
He took to Instagram today and explained how the death of a colleague “shakes the entire NHS family” as they continue to treat patients.
Dr Alex shared a photo with a colleague inside University Hospital Lewisham and penned alongside it: “WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU 
.
“A minutes silence to pay respect to all of the NHS staff and carers who have lost their lives in the fight against the coronavirus.”
Adding: “The bravery, strength and determination you showed to save the lives of others will never be forgotten. I can’t help but be moved to tears writing this.
“A death of a colleague shakes the entire NHS family. In time I hope and expect to see your sacrifices be recognized in full. For now we stop and honour you. Rest in peace.”
