DR Alex George likened working in A&E amid the coronavirus pandemic to preparing for battle on today’s Good Morning Britain.
The Love Island star, 30, has been sharing updates from the front line at University Hospital Lewisham, explaining how serious the crisis is.
Talking to GMB host Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid this morning, Dr Alex said: “You’re preparing for battle emotionally and physically.
“You’re going into an A&E and seeing difficult situations. You’re seeing people dying of coronavirus, and that’s very difficult.”
Seven NHS staff have died from the virus in the UK.
Piers asked Dr Alex if he worried about wroking on the front line given the potential risks to his own health.
The doctor relied: “I think anyone who says they are not concerned is not being completely open.”
Just days ago Dr Alex vowed to never stop fighting coronavirus in an inspiring snap from the inside the hospital.
He returned to work in A&E after his 2018 reality TV stint, and has been educating fans on the pandemic.
Taking to his Instagram page, Alex shared a photo of himself in full PPE – including a face mask, shield, goggles, and gloves.
He had a stethoscope around his neck, and one fist defiantly pumped in the air as he prepares for another day of battle against the deadly disease.
He captioned the post: “No matter how many times this virus beats us down, we will stand up and we will fight back”.
It came hours after Alex paid tribute to 36-year-old nurse Areema Nasreen who lost her life to Covid-19.
Sharing a photo of Areema to his Instagram Story, Alex wrote: “Devastated to hear of the passing of nurse Areema Nasreen. She was only 36.
“Her dedication and bravery will not be forgotten.”
Alex has been left emotionally drained by his gruelling shifts, admitting in an interview last week that he has experienced several coronavirus-related deaths in his London hospital.
Appearing on Sky News, he shared: “We had quite a few patients who were really quite unwell from coronavirus.
“Unfortunately, a few deaths as well which is always tough.”
Coronavirus was officially deemed a global pandemic last month, and so far it has claimed the lives of 4,974 people in the UK.
