LOVE Island’s Laura Whitmore has revealed that contestants get their hair and make-up done by experts.

The TV presenter revealed that the Islanders no longer leave the villa on a Saturday – but a professional comes into the villa to keen them looking preened to perfection.

The reality TV host told Cosmopolitan about the infamous ITV2 show: “They do all their own hair and make-up,” she said.

But, she added: “On Saturday, when there is no show on, their eyelashes and acrylic nails get redone.

“Apparently in the first series, they left the villa to go to a salon to have their hair done but now, because the show is so big, they can’t, so they have a girl who comes in to do their roots and stuff.”

The blonde beauty, who is engaged to voiceover comedian Iain Stirling, told the magazine about her first experience in South Africa for the winter series earlier this year.

She explained: “I’d never been there before. I’d been to the glamorous location of Iain’s voiceover booth and I was like, ‘This is no fun’.

“The villa is a whole other ball game… I went into the dressing room and loved it.

“I always thought it must be really messy, and they had this blue carpet and it was stained with fake tan everywhere and I was like, ‘I knew it!’”

Rumours were rife that contestants were allowed to leave the villa and head to a salon.

Ex-Islander Georgia Steel previously said: “The girls needed the hair and nails doing, we needed our hair cutting, so they had to schedule that.

“We were given a day where everyone could do everything, but it wasn’t treated like a day off.”

But since the show became so big, the girls haven’t been able to leave the compound.

The 2020 show was due to launch in early summer but the global lockdown has made that tricky.

And with the show such a huge earner for ITV, they are keen to film as soon as it is safe to do so – even if it means filming up until the end of the year.

An insider added: “The plan is still for the show to be filmed at its famous villa in Majorca.”

A TV source said: “Producers are optimistic the series could go ahead, but they don’t want to take any risks with coronavirus spreading on set so are looking at testing contestants in advance.”
