The Love Island star said she’s not been able to shower for three days

The media personality described her symptoms saying that she was suffering with extreme sweating and loss of appetite.

Sharing a clip of her looking unwell, Maura said: “This is the first time that I’ve been out of bed in I don’t know how long.

“And if you’re wondering what the noise is, it’s a fan…because the sweat that’s protruding out of my body, I can’t even explain.

“If I’ve not lost a stone from this illness, I’d be shocked.”

The TV beauty did not reveal what had caused it – but said it was the worst she had ever felt and told fans that she had been living off cereal for the past few days.

Alongside a snap of a bowl of Coco Pops, she wrote: “To those of you that live on your own…what do you eat when you are too ill to cook??!”

She also admitted that she had not showered for three days because she had no energy.

Sharing a photo of her bubble bath, she captioned it: “After three full days in bed, I finally have the energy to wash myself! (Disgusting I know)

“I don’t think I have ever been so unwell.”

Despite feeling poorly, the TV star was chuffed to receive a stunning bouquet of flowers from her mum.

Posting an image of the pink and purple assorted display, she penned: “My mammy always putting a smile on my face…love you so much @sharon.higgins”

‘NEED TO EAT’

Maura’s surprise illness comes days after she wowed on the front cover of Fabulous magazine at the weekend.

She opened up about receiving hundreds of messages every day telling her that she “needs a boob job” to look sexy and that she “needs to eat” because she’s “too thin”.

“I get it all the time,” she says with a sigh. “I get it so much. People writing: ‘Go and get a boob job’ or, ‘You’re too skinny.’”

It seems Maura, who appeared in the 2019 series of Love Island, has had to develop a protective barrier early on in her career. But when you consider the well-documented mental health struggles that many of the stars have experienced in the aftermath of leaving the ITV2 reality show, it’s sobering to hear the kinds of battles women in the public eye still face.

Thankfully, Maura has Sharon, her “Irish mammy”, to remind her to ignore social media trolls.

“I can be bad for [reading the comments]. But I’ve got better. Now I’m a bit like: ‘I’m 31 – whatever.’ Mammies do have the best advice. I tell mine everything, and I mean everything. There’s nothing I don’t tell her.

“I’ve always spoken to my mammy about it and asked: ‘Why is it OK for people to turn around to your face and say: ‘God, you’re too skinny’? Would you ever say to somebody: ‘God, you’re too fat’? No, you wouldn’t.”

But do the comments about her body ever play into her insecurities?

“I don’t need a boob job, because I feel sexy with the size of my boobs. I’m not going to get one to suit what some random person tells me. [Though] if it’s going to help somebody else feel more confident [to have surgery], then work away. I would be petrified of the boob surgery anyway. I watch that [E!] TV show Botched all the time, which puts me off.”

If anything, being in the public eye seems to have made her more comfortable with her body.

“I’ve not had my lips done in two years. I’m past it now – maybe because I’m older. I don’t need help with my confidence. I don’t feel like [big] boobs make you feel sexy. I think confidence comes from within.”
