A MEDIEVAL castle where Robert the Bruce once stayed has gone on the market – for the same price as a one-bedroom flat in London.

Castle of Park, which sits on the Park Estate, in Cornhill, Aberdeenshire has foundations dating back to the 13th Century, and comes with its own historic chapel and labyrinth.

The sprawling Castle of Park estate comes with 36 acres of land

The A-listed castle is on the marker for £1.5million – the same price as a one bed flat in Mayfair, London.

Robert the Bruce is said to have stayed at the harled mansion when he travelled north during turbulent times.

The current owners purchased the pink castle in 2007 and have refurbished it over time, adding an ‘endless pool’ to the garden in 2017, encased in its own glass enclosure.

It spans four floors and includes six large reception rooms, eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms.

There is also a two-bedroom flat on the top floor, where the current owner lives most of the time.

The stunning mansion sits on a lush 36 acres estate, just six miles from the coast in Moray, which was originally part of the Royal Forest of Banff.

The estate was granted by King Alexander II to a Norman knight, Sir Walram de Normanville, in 1242 Over the last four years the castle has been used as a self catering holiday home and exclusive use venue with visitors coming from America and Australia to stay.

It originally dates back to 1242 and was later rebuilt in the early 1500s into a Z plan which remains the basis of the castle layout today.

Selling agents Knight Frank said the property has a billiard room with wood burning stove, a barrel vaulted dining room and the historic chapel.

There is also a labyrinth, a croquet lawn, a rose garden and a large walled garden with an orchard.

In 2018 an award winning architect built a pavilion, kitted out with a large function room, kitchen and toilets, which is used for weddings, ceilidhs, conferences.

Tom Stewart-Moore, a partner at Knight Frank in Edinburgh, said: “We have had a number of enquiries about the property as it’s very unique.

There’s also a swimming pool, which is perfect for kids

It’s been built with a cover so you can swim any time of year easily

The property is perfect for either a family home or an events space, the estate agents have said

“It offers different opportunities for a potential buyer, either as a private residence, or as a business, offering a luxurious setting for exclusive events.

“It could be suited for someone from the city looking to start a new life up there on the coast with everything it has to offer.

“The castle is steeped in history and as an A-listed building it has lots of great quirks, like the chapel and the banquet hall.

“It may seem expensive within Scotland, but you get what you would expect a castle to be.”
