UNIVERSITY halls are set to be filled with students again soon.

But according to the Natwest Student Living Index 2020, 39 per cent of those in higher education are still relying on their parents for financial help, with some contributing upwards of £400 per term.

University life can be costly so we’ve selected bank accounts that offer student’s perks

Here’s a selection of bank accounts that offer perks to help with undergraduate life.

SANTANDER: The Santander 123 student account comes with a four-year 16-25 railcard for 30 per cent off peak travel.

The card is normally £30 annually. Students can also get a zero per cent overdraft of up to £1,500 for the first three years, provided they pay in £500 every term.

They’ll also give you cashback when you use your debit card at certain shops or restaurants. Retailers include Costa and Morrisons.

NATWEST: Choose from three perks: a year-long Amazon Prime membership and £10 gift card; a four-year Tastecard; or a four-year National Express Coachcard.

The Coachcard gives you a third off all Standard and Fully Flexible fares and 15 per cent off travel to events and festivals. It usually costs £12.50 a year or £30 for three years.

A Tastecard is usually £35 annually and offers either 2-for-1 or 50 per cent off deals at many restaurants.

BANK OF SCOTLAND: Get a free TOTUM card for up to three years, normally £14.99 for two years.

Discounts cover everything from food to streaming services. Check with individual retailers.

GO DIGI: Online banks, such as Monzo and Revolut offer apps that break down your spending by categories and group it into useful sections like transport, restaurants and groceries.

There’s also a “vault” option to save into a separate pot — for example if you spend £1.30, the vault will pop 70p into savings.

NATIONWIDE: Nationwide’s student account isn’t offering freebies but they are guaranteeing a £1,000 overdraft with zero per cent interest, rising by £1,000 each year up to £3,000. It’s totally fee-free.

Plus, after graduating the holder will be transferred to a graduate account which tapers their overdraft accordingly over a further three years, which could really help with paying it back.
