FATHER’S Day is here so time to get extra-appreciative of the father figures in our lives.
Dads tend to be full of good advice that we may, or may not, listen to throughout our younger years. But those one-liners tend to stick with us, even if at the back of our minds.
So, for a bit of frugal fun and to celebrate all things “savvy dad”, I asked my Sun Savers on Facebook for the best pieces of money-saving advice from their fathers . . .

Cathy McCann says: “My dad always said ‘It’s like Blackpool Illuminations in this house!’ Or ‘If you’re not in the room you don’t need a light on’, and ‘I may as well burn fivers!’
“They were statements I heard many times and now I understand where he is coming from!”
Kathleen Hodge says: “He would always say ‘Turn the fire off, there’s loads of us in here — it will soon warm up!’”

Lorraine Bushnell says: “If you can’t afford it, you can’t have it!”
Emma Elise Hearn says: “I was brought up to appreciate money — we earned our pocket money of £1 a week through doing the dishes. If we wanted it outside of Xmas or birthday we saved for it.
“Also when my dad quit smoking because I exclaimed I didn’t want him to die, he saved the money he would have otherwise spent on tobacco and spent it on theme parks etc for me and my brother — but he did always say to me ‘You can’t take it with you’, too!”
