LOCKDOWN has been purr-fect for pets who enjoyed having the extra company at home.
But as restrictions are set to ease, experts reckon our furry friends might get anxious.
The Dogs Trust has issued some advice for owners to help prepare their pets for the end of lockdown.
And Rachael Gannon of relaxmydog.com has some purse-friendly tips on keeping our pups happy.
MUSIC TO THEIR EARS: Rachael says: “RelaxMyDog includes music and video for a variety of situations, ranging from separation anxiety to boredom and hyperactivity.
You are bound to find the right music or clip for your pet.”
You can sign up for a 14-day free trial, after which the service costs £3.59 a month.
Or sign up for a year for £30.23 (working out at £2.51 a month).
KEEP A ROUTINE: Rachael says: “Keep feeding and walks to the same time every day, preferably when you’d do it if you were at work, so your dog isn’t startled by a sudden change in routine.”
I like to use the free Calendar app on my phone, with alerts, to keep to task.
TRAINING: Rachael says: “Training your dog can benefit them, especially when they’re alone.
Try leaving your dog alone with a distraction such as a toy or long-lasting treat to get them used to self-managing.”
Snap up bargains at B&M such as Bakers’ Sizzlers treats for 75p, which cost £1.39 at Pets At Home.
REINFORCEMENT: Try not to praise or cuddle your dog when they are anxious — as this tells them anxiety is necessary.
Rachael says: “Act normally and incorporate soothing music or aromas like chamomile.”
If you use a room diffuser, check Amazon for chamomile oil for just £2.25 — far cheaper than at Holland & Barrett, where bottles cost at least £4.
Keep all diffusers well out of your pets’ reach.
