A day out to the zoo or a theme park for a family of four costs a whopping £185 on average, a recent study by Asda found.

Enjoy a socially distanced day out for less with Sun Superdays and our top tips

But luckily, our Superdays are back to save you a bit of cash.

Here are some ideas for a socially distanced day out.

Have a Superday: If your kids love a challenge, make sure you get collecting your Sun Savers codes for two FREE tickets to The Bear Grylls Adventure in Birmingham, worth up to £80.

You need to collect nine codes to redeem your freebies and the tickets will allow entry to either High Ropes, Climb or Archery activities, depending on what you fancy. Check out our fantastic Bear Grylls Adventure four-page pullout in today’s paper for all the details.

Take-off: Kids love everything to do with trains and planes, so why not wrap them up warm and take them to watch some? Train or plane-spotting is free and will give them plenty to talk about.

When it comes to the best locations for spotting, spotterguide.net/planespotting has a comprehensive guide to airports across the UK.

If trains are more your thing, trainspots.co.uk lists the best places to see them across the country.

Farm fun: Check out if your local farm is hosting any special activities or days out. Wowcher and Groupon are great places to look for deals on activities such as these.

For example, I found a Pig Pet & Play Experience at Kew Little Pigs in Bucks from £21, and under-threes go for free. You can buy tickets for up to four people and vouchers are valid until the end of the year.

Also, you can currently get more than 12 per cent cashback at topcashback.co.uk when buying a family- friendly Virgin Experience Day. Spend £50 and that’s more than £6 back!

History lesson: A day out at one of the many English Heritage sites could be a learning adventure. Buy a pack of Country Life butter and you can get 2-for-1 tickets, which is a nice little bonus. Pick up a 250g block for £1.65 at Tesco, versus from £10 per ticket for some venues.

Boris Johnson has announced that adults without A-levels (or the equivalent) will be offered free, fully-funded college courses that could provide valuable skills. The scheme launches next April and will be paid for by the National Skills Fund.
