WE all like our home to look its best on Christmas Day.

Reports suggest we spend nearly seven hours cleaning. But you can get it spick and span in no time with these savvy tricks . . .

BUFF ’N’ READY: Old teabags work wonders to clean and shine wood. Pop a few in a a couple of pints of warm water to make a weak brew, dip a cloth in the solution and wipe away — then use a clean, dry cloth to buff.

A great trick for furniture and hard-wood floors but not laminates — and it saves you spending 60p on Tesco’s Wooden Furniture Polish.

WHAT A BEAUTY: Make-up bags can harbour all sorts of bacteria but you can quickly remedy this. Use a cloth soaked in diluted Zoflora disinfectant to clean the inside of your bag, and you can do the same for make-up packaging.

Order limited-edition Frosted Peppermint Zoflora at onlinepoundstore.co.uk for £2.45.

SCENTSATIONAL: Fabric freshener Febreze is great for killing odours in the home or car. But at £2.50 a bottle in Tesco, why splash the cash when you can make multiple bottles on the cheap.

Take an empty spray bottle, add two tablespoons of baking soda and a quarter of a cup of fabric softener, then fill the rest of the bottle with hot water and shake.

DOOR BLIMEY: A dishwater tablet is a magic fix for a mucky oven door or stainless-steel hob.

Take one tab, soak in warm water until it crumbles then dip in a rag and use to wipe away grime. I swapped Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner for this and saved £3.

CURTAIN CALL: Greying net curtains can be transformed — with denture cleaners. Pop three tabs in a bowl of warm water and leave to dissolve.

Fold your curtain so it fits the bowl, lay it on top of the water then push down gently to submerge. Leave for 15 minutes. A Pro-Formula 30-pack of denture tabs is 80p at Tesco — cheaper than Secure’s 32-pack for £4.
