AFTER weeks of testing weather conditions, your motor may be looking a little lacklustre.
But with car washes and mobile valets closed during lockdown, you’ll have to give it a little TLC yourself.
I spoke to Helen Robinson, from Euro Car Parts, to get her top tips on giving your car a savvy clean . . .
Prep: Helen says: “You’ll need a garden hose pipe, a bucket of warm, soapy water, a soft sponge for cleaning the car, a microfibre cloth to dry excess water and a wire brush to clean the wheels.”
My tip: The Hilka Pro-Craft Car Cleaning Washing Set of 4 is £9.99 at Screwfix, but the Auto Drive 6 Piece Car Cleaning Kit is £8 at Asda.
SAVE: £1.99
Scrub the right way: Helen says: “First, rinse the car with the hose from top to bottom. Then scrub the car with your bucket of soapy water and sponge. Ordinary house soaps aren’t recommended — use a car shampoo instead.”
My tip: A litre of Halfords car wash and wax is £4, but at eurocarparts.com you can get a litre of Simoniz shampoo & Wax for just £2.69.
SAVE: £1.31
Wheely good: Helen says: “Take a firm wire brush and scrub the wheel itself. For a more thorough clean of alloy wheels, you can also purchase specialist wheel cleaner.”
My tip: A litre of Carplan Demon Wheels is £7.39 at eurocarparts.com but you can nab it for £4.50 at The Range and B&M.
SAVE: £2.89
Glass act: Helen says: “After drying the car, you can clean the glass. This shouldn’t be done with a household glass cleaner, as they often contain ammonia, which can damage the car’s interior.”
My tip: A bottle of Turtle Wax Dash & Glass Interior Cleaner (500ml) is £7 at Halfords, but to save some cash give the Wilko Dashboard Shine (£2.25) and glass cleaner (also £2.25) a go.
SAVE: £1.50
