IT wasn’t a normal breakfast . . . and my companions’ table manners left something to be desired.

But it was the most FUN breakfast I’ve had.

Sea Life Scarborough is open for business and offering a treat: Breakfast With The Seals.

We were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves for an hour before it opened at 10am.

First stop was four hungry seals — Mando, Pendle, Boo and Ed. Spotting displays curator Todd German arrive, bucket in hand, with my sons Dylan, seven, and five-year-old Joe, the seals knew it was feeding time.

In the bucket were a load of messy fish. But thankfully Todd had some rubber gloves to hand out and we start flinging fish.

Poison dart

The bucket empty now, Todd showed us the “no more” signal, meaning feeding time is over.

The centre is home to creatures ranging from jelly fish to sharks and rays. One tank is dedicated to all the sea life found off our own shores.

The boys particularly enjoyed it when one of the otters answered a call of nature . . . and Todd explained why they had “liquid poos”.

A star of the centre is Antiopi, an 86kg loggerhead sea turtle. We had the chance to feed her but sadly she was enjoying a sleep on the bottom of the massive tropical tank.

Instead, we went into a special underwater viewing tunnel where we saw her up close.

In the Rainforest Adventure section, I got to hold a stick insect . . . but certainly not the poison dart frogs!

As their name suggests, that might have been detrimental to my health.

The centre does excellent conservation work, all around the globe, so it is great to have it back open for business.
