Keep your home spick and span and smelling good with our cash-saving tips

I DO love a scented cleaning product or three in my life.

Options such as Fabulosa or Zoflora are cheap and cheerful and do the job of keeping your home spick and span. Here are my favourite ways to use economical cleaners and save money . . .

Keep your home spick and span and sniff out a good cleaning bargain to save money

JUST A DROP: A little goes a long way, so there is no need to use too much at once — and you will save money by using sparingly. You can get a 220ml bottle of Fabulosa Gincredible disinfectant for £1.15 at myfabulosa.co.uk. This is enough to make ten litres — working out at about 11p per litre.

Just use one capful per 400ml of water will do. It is easy to go overboard when mixing, especially if you like the smell, so make sure you are not wasteful. Plus, Fabulosa is launching a collection with Bliss, the UK’s leading charity for babies born prematurely or sick — so check out these scents.

SPIDERS, BE GONE: Getting your house clean can keep Incy Wincy and his pals at bay — as can certain scents. Spiders are said to hate the smells of pepper-mint, lavender and tea tree oil, so cleaning with one of these will do the trick.

I like Dettol lavender disinfectant, £2 at Sainsbury’s. It is fresh-smelling and far cheaper than spider repellent, £5.99 at amazon.co.uk. The lavender helps me relax, too.

SCENT-SATIONAL: Who does not enjoy scented candles or reed diffusers? My current favourite is a diffuser from The Body Shop for £16 but this is not exactly cheap.

As a quick and affordable alternative, fill an empty bottle with a capful of water and your favourite Zoflora scent — I like Bouquet, £1.59, for a fresh, floral smell. You can buy a pack of 20 reed sticks at Sainsbury’s for £1.50.

DRY THIS: I try to put off going to the dry cleaners. It can get expensive, with the average household paying £320 a year on laundry and dry cleaning.

But try using Fabulosa Spray & Wear, £1 at Ocado, to refresh items. You get up to 400 uses per bottle, based on three sprays per use.
