Morrisons meal deal change makes it better value for customers

MORRISONS has changed its £3 lunchtime meal deal to include its premium sandwich range, making it a better deal for shoppers.

The supermarket will now include higher-end sandwiches, which usually cost £2.75 each, as part of the deal, as well as baguettes, freshly made sandwiches and hot rolls.

Morrisons says it is the only supermarket to offer premium sandwiches in its meal deal

“The Best” sandwiches included in the promotion are the New York deli grab bag, ham hock and egg sandwich, chicken and bacon sandwich and the chicken caesar triple wrap.

As well as a sandwich, customers can also choose a snack and a drink in the £3 deal.

This means that if you choose a premium sandwich, you are essentially getting a drink and a snack for 25p.

Snacks include a jumbo vegetable samosa or king prawns with a sweet chilli dip, or sweet treats including rocky road or caramel flapjacks.

Drinks including Innocent green smoothies and Costa Coffee lattes are part of the deal.

Morrisons claims it is the first supermarket to include its premium range sandwiches in its lunchtime offer.

Other supermarkets run similar promotions; Tesco’s meal deal includes sandwiches which cost up to £2.50, but does not include its Finest range.

Sainsbury’s also has a meal deal for £3, but it only includes its standard sandwich range in the deal, the most expensive of which costs £2.

Like Morrisons, other supermarkets include branded snacks and drinks such as Innocent smoothies in their deals.

Morrisons also says customers will soon be able to choose a medium salad box from the self-serve salad bar in stores as part of the deal – something that also isn’t included in other supermarket offers.

We have asked Morrisons exactly when this will be available, and will update this story when we know more.

In February, Morrisons cut the price of its meal deal by 50p to bring it down to £3.

Supermarkets are also selling “fakeaway” meal deals so you can enjoy a Chinese, Indian or Thai meal at home.

The supermarkets are currently working out how to manage queues, as social distancing measures remain in place.
