PRIMULA cheese has been recalled from shelves because it might be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum due to a production fault.

These dangerous bacteria can cause a serious form of food poisoning called Botulism – a very rare but life-threatening condition.

Primula is recalling all of its cheese tubes as it may contain deadly bacteria

The NHS says that these toxins are some of the most powerful known to science – they attack the nervous system and cause paralysis.

The Primula recall comes after just one of the cheese tube products was found to be a potential source of the Clostridium botulinum bacteria.

But Primula is recalling all of its cheeses – including those ranges that are not known to be affected – as a precaution.

The cheese tubes are sold in most major supermarkets including Asda, Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

They’ve will be stripped from shelves until the issue is resolved, and customers that have bought a Primula tube should not eat any of the cheese.

Primula said: “We are aware of a potential source of Clostridium botulinum found in one of our Primula Cheese tube products.

“As a precaution, we have stopped all product distribution. We are also contacting retailers to instruct them to remove all Primula tubes from shelves with immediate effect.

“We would like to reassure customers that instances like this are extremely rare.

“We would also like to apologise to those who won’t be able to get their hands on our cheese for a short period of time while we work hard to resolve the issue.”
