JANUARY always feels like a time to watch your wallet.
According to GoCompare Money, UK households spend a whopping £719 over the festive season — so it’s no wonder we’re feeling the pinch.
But, by snapping up a few bargains now, you could save yourself loads next December. Here are my tips for finding brilliant Christmas bargains in the sales.
Under wraps: I always keep leftover wrapping paper — it comes in handy for the following year’s stocking fillers. Plus, it’s a great reminder of my favourite rolls and where to buy from next year. But I also stock up on a couple of 13p ones from Poundland. I do the same with cards. Head to Matalan and pick up a 20-pack for £1.25, previously £2.50.
SAVE: £1.25 on cards
Thrifty gifting: Boots has dozens of half-price gift sets. I love the Fenty Beauty Rosé Cheeks, £24, down from £48. There are plenty of discounts on men’s grooming sets too. It’s also a good idea to check out toy sales for kids — Argos currently has a great clearance section with huge discounts. I spotted an Air Hogs Thunder Trax radio-controlled truck for just a tenner, usually £50.
SAVE: £40 on toy
Deck the halls: If you fancy adding a few new additions to your arsenal of Crimbo decs, now is the time. Sales are full of festive trinkets, perfect for saving for next year. I’m loving the selection at very.co.uk. You can get a set of two pink gin baubles for £9.99, down from £12.99.
SAVE: £3
Fir next year: Tree on its last legs? Argos has a 5ft option for £4.50, previously £15. Or if you want to go large, the retailer’s 6ft options are discounted to £7.50, usually £25. I also love the look of the white Lapland tree, down from £18 to just £5.
SAVE: £17.50 on a 6ft tree
Cracking stuff: Tick stocking up on 2021’s crackers off your list. For something a bit different, head to M&S where you can nab a pack of 12 Stuff The Turkey recyclable family Christmas crackers and game for just £7.50, down from £15. Or buy two and store one for the next Xmas.
