WITH Christmas Day almost here, most of us will be all prepared.

But there are bound to be some of you who have left things until the last minute.

There are always some late deals and ideas to rescue your festive celebrations

To help, I have come up with some late deals and ideas to rescue your festive celebrations.

DON’T BE CHICKEN: With the mad rush for turkeys, supermarkets are often left with surplus chicken, and this will be discounted to shift ahead of Christmas Eve.

If you are trying to stay on budget and you have a large family to feed, it may be worth thinking about whether swapping to a chicken could mean a saving.

You could also buy a couple of discounted chickens and freeze them for meals in January.

VEG FOR LESS: Hit the reduced section of your supermarket every day in the run-up to Christmas as lots of extra stock can mean rock-bottom prices.

Last year, Aldi and Lidl slashed the prices of their veg to just 15p.

If you are happy to risk it and leave it until Christmas Eve, sometimes supermarkets will even give away surplus stock for free.

HAVE A CRACK AT IT: As well as discounting fresh food, supermarkets usually mark down other stock on Christmas Eve too, such as Christmas decorations and crackers — great if you haven’t already got some, but also handy to stash for next year too.

Last year I picked up a box of 12 Christmas crackers at Tesco for £1, reduced from £10.

STAY IN THE PRESENT: Store sales often start on Christmas Eve or even just before.

I’d suggest a browse in the clothing departments and toiletries aisle.

I got lots of half-price gift sets last year and stashed some away for birthday presents later in the year.

It’s a great way to save money in the long run.
