TESCO has slashed the price of hundreds of groceries by up to 50%, including big brands like Birds Eye and McCain – but only if you’re a Clubcard customer.

The supermarket is running the discounts – which launch today – for shoppers who’ve signed up to its loyalty scheme.

Clubcard shoppers can get up to 50% off some items online and in store

Shoppers can find out what discounts are available by checking for the deals on the retailer’s website.

Some of the bargains customers can expect include half price Dr Oetker Ristorante Mozzarella pizza, which costs £1.25, down from £2.50.

A litre tub of vanilla flavoured Carte D’Or ice cream will set you back just £1.75, instead of £3.50, while the price of a pack of six Magnum minis will be reduced to £1.90, down from £3.89.

Shoppers can save £1.10 on a box of 20 Birds Eye Omega 3 fish fingers, which normally cost £3.10 but have been reduced to £2 for Clubcard holders.

Customers can save £1 on a 1.4kg bag of McCain’s french fries

Meanwhile, the price of a 1.4kg bag of McCain’s French Fries has been cut from £3, to £2, saving you £1.

The deals bonanza is inspired by last year’s centenary celebration sales when Tesco ran discounts of up to 50% off on selected items.

Like last year, the offers are available to both Clubcard and Clubcard Plus members but this time around, instead of being limited to just three weeks, the deals are ongoing.

What’s on offer will then change every two to three weeks.

Of course, it’s worth shopping around to make sure the deals are as good as they sound.

To get money off your grocery bill, customers will need to scan the Clubcard app, Clubcard or fob at the checkout or when shopping online.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get the discounts if you’re not a member of Tesco’s loyalty scheme.

You can sign up to the Clubcard scheme for free and earn points every time you shop that can later be exchanged for money-off vouchers.

Shoppers are given one point for every £1 spent and each Clubcard point is worth 1p when you shop.

To become a Clubcard Plus member, you’ll need to pay a subscription fee worth £7.99 a month, or £95.88 a year, to access extra discounts and deals, such as 10% off two big shops a month.

The supermarket claims that it saves shoppers £400 a year and they can collect loyalty points too.

It’s similar to Amazon’s premium service, Prime, although Amazon is cheaper at £79 a year.

Shoppers who don’t want to sign up to the loyalty scheme can still benefit from a range of discounts as the supermarket is extending its Aldi price match event.

Tesco sparked a supermarket price war in March 2020 by vowing to match the price of Aldi on hundreds of products.

Now, it says it has matched prices on more than 500 own-brand and branded items.

Alessandra Bellini, Tesco chief customer officer, said: “We know that great value matters to customers more than ever before, that’s why, to reward our loyal customers, we’re offering everyone with a Tesco Clubcard access to hundreds of exclusive deals.

“We’re also offering everyday low prices on hundreds of products so that customers can get clear and consistent prices on the products they buy regularly.”

Earlier this year, the supermarket’s boss Dave Lewis said that it hopes to roll out free delivery for Clubcard Plus members to beat off competition from Amazon Fresh.

Discounter Lidl has launched a new loyalty scheme that gives you discounts if you use an app when you shop.
