The PM today published a lengthy plan to get the country back to normal with an array of changes.

Boris Johnson has teed up an array of changes

What has the Prime Minister said?

Last night he gave a statement outlining the three stages of his plan, and today’s document features some of the small print.

But lots of the details are still missing from the huge document, with it raising more questions than it answers.

He told the House of Commons: “If everyone stays alert and follows the rules, we can control the virus, keep the rate of infection down and the keep number of infections down.

“And this Mr Speaker is how we can continue to save lives, and livelihoods, as we begin to recover from coronavirus.”

In a foreword to the document, he said: “This document sets out a plan to rebuild the UK for a world with COVID-19.

“It is not a quick return to ‘normality.’ Nor does it lay out an easy answer.

“But it is a plan that should give the people of the United Kingdom hope.

“Hope that we can rebuild; hope that we can save lives; hope that we can safeguard livelihoods.”

But the PM warned Britain that the only way out of a complete lockdown was finding a vaccine – and there was still a chance that could never happen.

What will happen this week?

The reopening of the nation will be done slowly so that experts can monitor the rate of transmission – known as the R rate – of coronavirus and watch the impact of any relaxed measures on new cases numbers in the UK.

The first thing that will happen is Brits will be allowed some more freedom to spend leisure time outside from Wednesday – including sunbathing and picnics with their own household.

When do kids go back to school?

In England, primary school pupils will start to return in phases from June but children at secondaries will not be back in until at least September, as confirmed last night.

Nurseries, reception year children, Year 1 and Year 6 pupils will be the first to return after the May half term.

The documents today revealed that the Government want primary schools in England to go back for at least a month before the school holidays.

That means they will likely be back in classrooms in late June.

Can I see my friends?

New guidelines published today reveal the Government in investigating whether it’s safe for two homes to mix together.”

From Wednesday, the public will be allowed to meet with one other person who is not from their household.

But they must remain 2 metres away at all times.

It means people can finally see friends and family again – but only one other person and at a distance.

But there is still a ban on gatherings of more than two people – meaning this would be against the law.

Can I travel abroad?

In the next few weeks, anyone coming into the UK from abroad will face a 14 day quarantine.

However, France and Ireland will be exempt from this for now.

More details on the plan are expected, but it’s not going to come into action for a few weeks yet.

Meanwhile, Brits will be able to travel to exercise from Wednesday – no matter how far.

It will mean Brits can take day trips to the beach, parks and lakes that are not nearby.

But they must stay within England and cannot cross the border into Wales or Scotland.

Nicola Sturgeon warned anyone crossing over could face arrest, too.

What about around the UK?

UK breaks may not happen until the middle of summer after the Government warned hotels and holiday homes will not open before July 4.

The predicted date may also be pushed back depending on the coronavirus situation in Britain.

UK weather forecast

Sunbathing will now be allowed

Will we be able to go out more?

Brits will soon be able to leave the house for more than just the four reasons listed in the coronavirus laws.

They will be allowed to travel to other places for sunbathing, picnics, and other leisure reasons.

Boris also revealed last night the public will soon be able to do as much exercise as they like, rather than just once a day like at the moment.

That will include sports like golf and tennis which had previously shut down partially thanks to the lockdown.

Is football coming back?

Premier League and top sport will be able to start up again in June – but only from behind closed doors under the Government’s new plans to ease lockdown.

Full sports matches and any mass gatherings will stay banned for many more months.

The new guidance said: “Organisations should prepare… (for) cultural and sporting events to take behind closed-doors for broadcast, while avoiding the risk of large-scale social contact.

While parts of Britain are being slowly opened up again over the next few months, sports events, pubs and other events will be the very last to be allowed to reopen.

Brits wear masks in London

Do I need to wear a face mask now?

Brits were also urged to wear face coverings in public to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The PM said that homemade masks should be worn in enclosed spaces where social distancing isn’t possible or where you may come into contact with people from outside of your household.
