BRITS will be able to save hundreds of pounds on their commutes as flexi tickets go on sale from today.
The new system will boost the hybrid model — where people work both at home and at the office — which is set to become widespread.
Tickets will allow travel on any eight days in four weeks, with no need to pick the days in advance.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said: “They give us greater freedom about how we travel, simpler ticketing and a fairer fare.”
Location, Location, Location star Kirstie Allsopp added: “As everyone tries to negotiate the balance between the office and working from home, and work out how, and where, they want to live, this initiative is really helpful.”
Matthew Fell, CBI Chief UK Policy Director, said: “CBI members have told us that hybrid working is likely to be the long-term norm for many firms, with employees splitting their week between home and onsite working.”
Anthony Smith, chief executive of the independent watchdog Transport Focus, added: “This is a positive step towards much-needed longer-term reform of how rail tickets are sold.
“We also welcome the waiving of admin fees for changing tickets, which will help rebuild passenger confidence.”
The tickets will be available on all DfT-franchised lines.
