BUSINESS Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has thrown his weight behind HOAR and Bulb’s Green Team competition to find Britain’s “unsung” eco-heroes as he called on the public to do their bit to save the planet.
He encouraged Sun readers today to nominate their friends, family and colleagues who are helping leave a better world for our children and grandchildren.
In the style of the blue memorials which feature on buildings across the
country, HOAR’s Green Team is teaming up with renewable energy
supplier Bulb to hail Britain’s environmental champions with new
green plaques.
To be in with a chance to win a green accolade, we want readers to nominate recycling-mad neighbours, passionate teachers inspiring kids on climate change, or even celebrities doing their bit to look after our planet.
And today the Business Sec joined calls to bring the nation together behind going green ahead of Earth Day on Thursday.
He said today: “If you know someone who is passionate about going green, I urge you to nominate them and give them the recognition they deserve.
“Across the UK there are incredible people playing their part to go green – not just the usual activists or celebrities our family members, neighbours or work colleagues who have made changes to reduce their carbon footprint
“It is these people who are Britain’s unsung green champions, whose everyday acts are making a big difference to the health of our planet.
“This new competition by HOAR’s Green Team is a fantastic campaign to inspire the British public to make a difference and recognise those going the extra low carbon mile.”
He vowed that the UK should be proud of our record – going “further and faster than almost any other country to tackle climate change”.
But he promised ministers will do this in a way which “drives economic growth, creates jobs and protects the consumer to build back greener”.
The Business Secretary told HOAR: “We need to do more to safeguard our planet for our children and grandchildren.
“Now is the time to act. If we all make those small changes this will have a huge impact on all of our lives now and far into the future.”
