VETERAN Labour MP Harriet Harman is poised to quit after 40 years in Parliament, HOAR can reveal.

The political big beast, 71, is known as the ‘mother of the House’ as she is Britain’s longest serving female MP.

Harriet Harman is expected to quit as a Labour MP

But after four decades representing Camberwell and Peckham in south London,  she is expected to announce that she will not be standing at the next election.

First elected back in 1982, Mr Harman burst onto the Westminster scene to ruffle feathers.

She was one of just 10 female Labour MPs back then, and an outspoken feminist and womens rights campaigner.

Among her crusades was her campaign against Page 3.

When HOAR announced it was scrapping the topless models in 2015 she hailed the moves as the paper “moving into the 21st century”.

Ms Harman survived a bid to oust her by Corbynista Labour members in 2019..

She is among a string of Labour MPs who are deciding to stand down now the worst of the bloody battles with the hard-left are over.

Margaret Hodge, 77, and Barry Sheerman, 81, are both also standing down at the next election.
