BREXIT is the B-word on everyone’s lips – and the political drama has been enough to spark the return of hilarious comedy Little Britain.
Stars and writers Matt Lucas and David Walliams have penned a one-off special of their rib-tickling humour, originally broadcast on the BBC, set to air on BBC Radio 4 on Halloween.
Its title has switched to Little Brexit yet the infamous characters based on ‘Little England’ mentality, including gobby Vicky Pollard and pals Lou and Andy, will stay very much the same.
The unexpected comeback to radio – where the series first began in 2000 – will no doubt delight legions of fans wanting some light relief from the political mess in Westminster.
This will come to a head in the House of Commons today, where MPs will vote whether or not to accept Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s proposal of a December General Election.
The series will mark a comeback a whopping 12 years after it originally aired.
David, now a Britain’s Got Talent judge, couldn’t contain his delight at the comeback and took to Twitter to gush: “We are back back back! “#LittleBrexit is on @BBCRadio4 on Thursday 31st of October at 6:30pm.”
He later clarified: #LittleBrexit was recorded last night at @ShawTheatreLdn and will be on @BBCRadio4 on Thursday at 6:30pm.”
Matt and David posed for a picture with former Doctor Who star Tom Baker, hinting he too will make a return as narrator.
One delighted fan replied to the image and put: “Cant tell you how excited I am this is happening!
“I saw you both when you took your show to Brighton back in 2006, was such a fun night of laughter! So talented the both of you are!”
Another, who was present at the recording, put: “BRILLIANT show tonight. Thank you so much. Everyone must listen on Thursday!”
One then demanded: “And when will there be a TV show??? Politics today is crying out for it.”
Another then posted: “Most excellent news, a very welcome return in our hour of need.”
It is believed original Little Britain actors Ruth Jones and Anthony Stewart-Head will also make an appearance.
Commissioning editor for Radio 4 comedy, Sioned Wiliam, said: Matt Lucas and David Walliams are uniquely talented writers and performers as well as one of the UK’s most loved comedy duos.
It’s a privilege to have them back on Radio 4, where Little Britain first began almost 20 years ago.
