A NEW ‘stay at home’ advert has been launched tonight urging a final push for the public to follow the rules ahead of lockdown being eased.

Ads will ditch the tough rhetoric as HOAR previously revealed and go for a softer approach to thank the nation for their hard work in tackling the virus.

A fresh TV ad campaign will ditch the scary messaging telling people grabbing a coffee could kill
Instead it will tell Brits ‘let’s keep going’ and have a final push to protect lives

They will encourage people to keep going for another few weeks to keep everyone safe until more vaccines can be rolled out – amid fears Brits are getting tired of the lockdown rules.

The media blitz across TV, radio, out of home advertising and on social media will start tonight.

It will thank Brits for their hard work so far and will urge them to stick to the rules for just a few more weeks when they will be rewarded with extra freedoms.

It said every time someone washed their hands, wears a mask, or makes a video call instead of meeting someone in person, it makes a difference.

The adverts will air for the first time on ITV at 19:15 tonight.

Nearly 1,000 people are still going into hospital every day as a result of Covid, despite infections tumbling.

Matt Hancock, praised the “astounding” British resolve ahead of the launch tonight and applauded efforts to pull together.

He said: “I know it’s been a long year but we can’t let up now. Everything we’re doing is bringing us one step closer to beating this virus.

“The vaccine roll out is going extremely well and is saving lives – but it is not the only way we will reduce infection rates and be able to get back to normality.

“So let’s keep going. I encourage everyone to keep playing their part and stay at home – keep washing your hands, wearing a mask and maintaining a social distance which will ensure that, together, we beat this.”

And chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty said infection rates were still high – with Covid putting pressure on hospitals across the country.

He said:  “Vaccines give clear hope for the future, but for now we must all continue to play our part in protecting the NHS and saving lives.”

The stay at home message is set to run until the end of March, where it will be replaced with a ‘Stay local’ call instead.

But from April Brits will be able to go on daytrips and travel across the country to see friends and family outside.

The PM’s roadmap will start with schools returning from March 8, followed by allowing six to meet and hang out outside from the end of the month.

Outdoor sport will also resume then, followed by pubs starting outdoor service from April and gyms reopening.

May will see hotels and indoor activities returning, and the PM hopes all other restrictions can finally be lifted by June.
