THE number of parents happy to send kids back to class is rising, a poll says.
Experts noted a “big shift” in how families feel about a return to school.
But a minister warned a second Covid-19 wave could halt reopening in September.
An Ipsos Mori survey found 48 per cent of parents were “confident” about sending kids back — up from 33 per cent in May.
Those “very uncomfortable” over a return has halved to 15 per cent.
Downing Street plans to get all kids back by expanding the “bubble” system.
In primaries, classes cannot mix while year groups will be kept apart in secondaries.
Tory MP Robert Halfon, education select committee chairman, said Covid-19 risks at school will be “minimal”.
He added: “There should be much more concern about the huge risks to children not learning, suffering from mental health and anxiety, loneliness and much more besides.”
However No 10 is increasingly worried that a surge in cases sweeping through Europe will derail reopening.
A minister told the Evening Standard: “Getting children back into proper lessons is important for their wellbeing and for parents who want to get back to work.
“That could be pushed off course if the rises in Spain and other European countries is repeated here.”
