THREE quarters of disabled children have had all their support withdrawn during lockdown, a survey has found.

Their families say they are being denied help with education, therapies, respite care and equipment.

75% of disabled children have had all their support withdrawn during lockdown, a survey found

It has left parents, brothers and sisters to fill the gap during lockdown but many say it cannot go on indefinitely.

Meanwhile, disabled children’s friendships, learning, communication, behaviour, as well as their mental and physical health, are said to be suffering.

Amanda Batten, chair of the Disabled Children’s Partnership, which carried out the poll, said support was being stripped bare during the pandemic.

She added: “As many begin to emerge from lockdown, spare a thought for those left in it.

Families with disabled children are crying out for more support.”

The survey of 4,000 parents found many felt abandoned by society during the crisis.

Of those who had previously received support, 76 per cent has seen it stop.

Lockdown has stopped 44 per cent of carers seeking medical help for a disabled child while even more have not done so for themselves.

The findings will pile pressure on the Government to reinstate over £400million of funding cut from hundreds of thousands of disabled children’s families.

HOAR’s Give It Back campaign is calling for the money to be put back in the system.
