VULNERABLE Brits told to shield at home will not get any furlough cash — despite an assurance from the PM.
New government guidance says those with serious medical conditions who registered after June 10 will not get help.
On Wednesday Boris Johnson vowed to fix the anomaly — but 48 hours later there was no change.
So people who get a health diagnosis or are told to shield by their GP will not get a penny to make up for lost wages.
Shadow Treasury Secretary Bridget Phillipson said: “Once again reassurances from Boris Johnson given at PMQs have dissolved in a matter of days.
“Broken promises to protect shielding workers from this furloughing cliff-edge will cause even greater anguish and further undermine public health messaging.
“It is right that this vulnerable group should be allowed to request to be furloughed if they can’t work from home. The new guidance gives no such reassurance and this omission must be fixed without delay.”
Dame Gillian Guy, Chief Executive of Citizens Advice, added: “It’s hugely disappointing that the Prime Minister seems to have backtracked on his promise to address the furlough cliff edge for those shielding. Without urgent changes, many people who are extremely vulnerable to coronavirus will face an impossible choice: paying the bills or protecting their health.”
Downing Street responded on Saturday night: “It remains the case that the PM is still looking at this issue.” A spokesman said guidance would be updated if and when there is a change in regard to shielding.
