THE third People’s Vote march will storm London on Saturday – with protesters fighting for a second referendum.

Politicians and campaigners, including Dame Margaret Beckett and Lord Heseltine, attended the last event. But what is the Peoples Vote campaign?

Thousands have previously taken to the streets of central London to voice their support for staying in the EU

What is the People’s Vote?

The group is campaigning for a final say on the Brexit deal, saying it’s “the only way forward”.

The People’s Vote website explains supporters want to tell the government MPs should “trust the people, not Boris Johnson, to solve the Brexit crisis.

“The only way to break the deadlock in Parliament… is to give the people the final say.”

The grassroots campaign was launched at the Electric Ballroom in Camden, London, on April 15, 2018, and is supported by Open Britain, the European Movement UK and Britain for Europe, among others.

MPsChuka Umunna, Anna Sobry, Layla Moran andCaroline Lucasas well as comedian Andy Parsons and Sir Patrick Stewart attended the launch of the campaign.

There are more than 700,000 campaign supporters, 20,000 activists and over a million followers on social media, with “more joining every day”, the group says.

More than 700,000 Remainers took part in a People’s Voice march demanding a second vote on staying in the European Union in the capital last October.

Dame Margaret Beckett says Brexit shouldn’t be ‘forced through Parliament’

What are their rallies about?

A series of Peoples Vote “Let us be heard” rallies were held in towns and cities across the UK in summer “where people from all walks of life demanded the right to a final say on Brexit”.

The People’s Vote website says: “It’s now clear that this is a crisis that cannot be settled by our prime minister or his government. It can only be settled by us, the people.

“His Brexit crisis has now come down to a simple question about whether we live in a democracy: can we allow Boris Johnson to force No Deal or another vicious form of Brexit on our country, without all of us having our voice heard?”

On Saturday October 19, people will assemble in Park Lane at noon before marching through London, close to Green Park and Buckingham Palace, to Parliament Square, to hear speeches.

Dame Margaret Beckett, MP for Derby South, said that “as the UK stumbles towards the new Brexit deadline of October 31… we are approaching a new cliff-edge of accidentally crashing out of the EU with no deal.

“Instead of trying to force Brexit through Parliament and on the country, we believe… a people’s voice is the only way out of this crisis.”
