BANK holidays mean changes to opening hours at many stores – so it’s best to know in advance to avoid turning up to a closed shop.
Pubs have already been granted permission to stay open for an extra two hours to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee in June – but what about the rest of the retail world?
The celebration will see Brits given a bonus day off – with the late May Day bank holiday moved to the start of June.
The Queen will mark 70 years on the throne in June – the first time a British monarch has reached a platinum Jubilee
The extra day off can be enjoyed on Friday June 3, following the late May bank holiday on June 2.
The late May bank holiday usually lands on the last Monday of the month, but it has been moved so Brits can enjoy a four-day weekend.
And with this time off landing in summer, there’s a good chance the weather will be on our side – perfect weather to nip to the shops for BBQ essentials.

Waitrose and John Lewis
On Thursday June 2 and Friday June 3, the majority of Waitrose stores will be open from 8am to 10pm, with some Little Waitrose shops opening from 7am to 10pm.
The higher-end supermarket says most stores will trade normal hours on Saturday June 4 and Sunday June 5.
John Lewis fans can expect to visit stores at normal hours on June 4 and June 5 – which are usually 10am to 8pm.
But on Thursday, June 2 and and Friday, June 3, the majority of John Lewis stores will be open from 9am to 8pm – giving shoppers an extra hour to browse than usual.
Though it encourages customers to check opening times of their local branch online before visiting.
Morrisons
Opening times for the budget friendly supermarket can vary across its 497 UK stores.
But Morrisons told us that it will be open as normal over the bank holiday.
This means shoppers can expect to browse from roughly 6am in the morning to 11pm.

Aldi
Keeping it nice and simple, Aldi told us that opening hours will be its standard bank holiday times.
This means customers can expect to shop between 8am and 8pm across all stores.
So hours are slightly reduced, as stores close at 10pm on a regular night.
Sainbury’s
Sainbury’s told HOAR that it is yet to announce its store opening times for the Jubilee bank holiday and will update us closer to the date.
Based on previous bank holiday patterns, Sainsbury’s is expected to open between 7am and 9pm.
This is two hours less than usual opening times, which typically span from 7am to 11pm.
Asda
Asda told HOAR that all its opening times will be available to check on its store locator a week before any given date.
Based on previous patterns, Asda is expected to open at 8am instead of 7am, and close at 8pm as opposed to 10pm or 12pm like usual, which seems to be the case for most big supermarket names.
B&M
Although B&M said it will be keeping its customers in the loop with Jubilee bank holiday opening times, the store has advised us that it will be doing this closer to the time.
B&M stores have previously shut at 6:30pm as opposed to its usual 8pm during the August bank holiday last year.
It is likely the store will repeat this pattern again.
Tesco, Lidl, M&S and Iceland
HOAR has asked these stores for comment and will update this article when we hear back.
Tesco, Lidl, M&S and Iceland have all had similar bank holiday hours in the past.
Last August, Tesco was open between 8am and 6pm across its 4,000 stores.
Similarly, Lidl was open from 8am to 8pm across its 800 stores, compared to the 10pm curfew it usually has.
M&S was open 7am to 8pm across its 1,000 branches, so customers can expect similar times this year.
And Iceland stayed open between 8am to 9pm, giving shoppers a chance to grab some late night snacks.
Ikea, B&Q, and Dunelm
B&Q typically keeps similar opening times on bank holidays.
So painters and DIY-ers alike can have a wander down aisles between 8am to 8pm.
Similarly, Dunelm and Ikea haven’t previously published a full list of store opening times for bank holidays.
But on a regular weekday, Dunelm customers can visit between 9am and 9pm, and flat pack furniture fans can shop Ikea between 10am and 9pm.
Poundland and Wilko
If you’re planning a trip to either Poundland or Wilko, it’s highly recommended that you check your local store hours beforehand.
