WHEN Meghan Markle made her inspiring Girl Up speech earlier this week, aside from her powerful words, people were talking about one other thing – her in-cred-i-ble hair.

Long, luscious, glossy – Meg’s locks quickly became the envy of every woman patiently waiting their turn in the hairdressers chair post-lockdown.

Meghan Markle’s close pal and hairdresser says the Duchess was ‘making a statement’ with her new long locks

But behind the Duchess of Sussex’s new, glossy, non-royal look, it seems there’s one other inspiring woman whose style is making a mega-comeback this summer – Cher!

Yup, that’s right…‘Cher Hair’ is back, ladies!

Meg might be swishing her ‘no-rules mane’ about without a tiara to keep it conservative nowadays but Cher, 74 –  also known as the Goddess of Pop – is the woman really made this look a ‘thing’.

Just like Cher – who famously made her name by rocking the male-dominated music industry in the 60s and 70s – Meg too is ‘making a statement’ by ditching her signature pulled back bun for these long locks.

Cher – the original hair icon for long locks

Her UK hairstylist and close pal George Northwood told the Telegraph: “She’s making a statement with hair that long – it represents strength and a sense that she’s really got everything sorted.

“This straighter, longer hairstyle marks a new chapter in her life without such strict protocols.”

Surprisingly, George also revealed that despite everyone presuming Meghan, 38, has had some VERY pricey extensions, it’s actually her own hair.

“People think that Meghan has had hair extensions, but I never put any extensions in her hair in the two years that I worked with her.

“It’s all her own hair, and it’s great to see it looking so long and healthy.”

But Meg isn’t the only celeb showing off her ‘Cher hair’ for the summer. Stars from Maya Jama to Kim Kardashian and Charlotte Crosby have also gone for the long-length locks… check ‘em out.

Erm, we had to double take, is that Kim Kardashian or Cher…uncanny!

Naomi Campbell’s poker straight locks prove Cher is certainly back on trend

Khloe, like sister Kim, is also a fan of the waist long delicate waves

So, what do you need to ask for if you’re hitting the salon soon and fancy giving ‘Cher hair’ a go?

“Not straight-ironed and poker straight,” said George.

Apparently the trend it to keep some shape around the sides and have longer layers, which hug the face and it’s also “a clever trick to slim and soften facial features.”

“In the salon, we are moving away from cutting in a long fringe that skims the cheekbones and moving back to longer layers that frame the face like Meghan is wearing here,” George said.
