DANNY Dyer will no longer be pulling pints in the Queen Vic as his character is quitting as landlord.

The EastEnders favourite, 42, has revelled in the iconic role ever since he joined the BBC1 soap as Mick Carter in 2013.

Mick Carter will be quitting as landlord of the Queen Vic due to wife Linda’s alcoholism battle

But due to Mick’s wife and fellow landlord Linda’s battle with alcoholism, Mick is selling up, meaning some of Walford’s biggest names – including warring ex-couple Phil and Sharon Mitchell – will be competing to takeover while the Carters move elsewhere in Albert Square.

A soap insider said: “With Linda struggling to quit booze it makes sense Mick moves the family out the pub.

“His decision will spark a bidding war between some of the residents who fancy taking on the biggest job in Walford.

“Viewers will be sad to see Danny no longer behind the bar, but that doesn’t mean he won’t return at some point in the future.”

Linda has been turning to the booze to drown her sorrows in EastEnders

The Queen Vic landlord is considered one of the most sought-after parts in soapland.

Former landlords have included Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor), Alfie and Kat Moon (Shane Richie and Jessie Wallace), Frank and Pat Butcher (Mike Reid and Pam St Clement) and Den and Angie Watts (Leslie Grantham and Anita Dobson).

Linda, played by Kellie Bright, hit the booze to cope with the stress of being ostracised by parents at the school attended by youngest son Olly, who has been diagnosed with autism.

Her addiction nearly cost Linda her life during last month’s boat crash when her ankle got trapped in the boat’s galley while she was desperately trying to reach a bottle of cooking wine.

With the kitchen slowly filling up with water, Mick was forced to deliberately break her leg to free her and save her from drowning.

Peggy Mitchell, played by the legendary Dame Barbara Windsor, is perhaps the Queen Vic’s most iconic landlord
Alfie and Kat Moon, played by Shane Richie and Jessie Wallace, have also been landlords of the iconic pub
