THIS is the moment Emmanuel Macron and Justin Trudeau appear to be caught gossiping about Donald Trump at the Buckingham Palace NATO reception.

The French and Canadian leaders were filmed chatting to Princess Anne and Boris Johnson – joking about a “40 minute press conference” that had run late.

While the US president was not mentioned by name, Trump had held a lengthy interview alongside Macron earlier that day.

The group caught in the awkward hot mic moment included Macron and Trudeau, with Dutch PM Mark Rutte, Boris Johnson and Princess Anne also enjoying the Buckingham Palace reception.

The video, from the reporting pool via the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, offered little context but saw Johnson ask Macron “is that why you were late?”

It was then that Trudeau interjected, saying: “He’s late because he takes a 40-minute press conference off the top.”

Another part of the conversation saw Trudeau later chuckling: “You just watched his team’s jaws drop to the floor.”

NATO leaders were last night welcomed to Buckingham Palace ahead of the summit in London.

The frosty warning came as the American and French leaders met on the the sidelines of the NATO summit in London.

The men’s combative stance at this week’s NATO summit is also due to France being left bristling at America’s threat to slap 100 per cent tariffs on French cheeses, Champagne and other products.

The U.S. Trade Representative proposed the tariffs on $2.4 billion in goods on Monday in retaliation for a French tax on global tech giants including Google, Amazon and Facebook.

Macron has previously said that it’s not fair that digital revenues are taxed less than real-life revenues.

A fuming Macron told Trump on Tuesday that America’s response was a trade attack on all of Europe.

TheUS leadersaid he thinks the two nations will be able to resolve the trade dispute, possibly through some “mutually beneficial tax”.

He had said ahead of the NATO summit: “I’m not in love with those (tech) companies, but they’re our companies.”

Earlier today, before the pair met, Trump lashed out at a story about Macron in the Economist, where he suggested that the NATO alliance was becoming obsolete due to a “brain death”.

A grumpy Trump took aim at Macron, calling his comments “very nasty” and insulting to the military alliance’s other 28 members.

“Nobody needs NATO more than France,” Trump added.
