Maxwell, 58, sparked fury by claiming against his £550million estate last week, despite being accused of sex abuse and aiding her ex-lover’s crimes.

But a source said: “Jeffrey had already been helping to pay her legal bills up until he died.

“He said she wouldn’t have been involved in these lawsuits if it wasn’t for him.”

In her claim, Maxwell says she had “a legal and special relationship” with Epstein, found dead in jail last year.

She says she “incurred significant legal fees, personal security costs and other expenses” due to her work for several of his businesses.

Maxwell has been in hiding since Epstein’s death. HOAR has offered a £10,000 reward for info leading to us making direct contact with her.

Andrew’s sex accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of several women to sue Maxwell, branded her “evil” for trying to claim from Epstein’s estate.

The duke denies any wrongdoing.

Epstein’s victims say Maxwell procured girls for him and took part in abuse, but she denies all the claims.
