THE Queen is to go on her annual summer trip to Balmoral Castle in Scotland – and Kate Middleton, Prince William and their three kids will join, according to a royal expert.

Vanity Fair’s Katie Nicholl said that Prince Charles, 71, is “looking forward” to spending time with the Cambridges during a “family holiday” in Scotland in August.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed the Queen and Prince Philip will head to Balmoral Castle in Scotland in ‘early August’

She wrote: “Prince Charles will be on engagements in the south west of the country on George’s birthday, but is looking forward to spending time with all his grandchildren when the Cambridges head to Scotland for a family holiday next month.”

Buckingham Palace has confirmed the Queen and Prince Philip will head to Aberdeenshire in ‘early August’.

The Queen, 94, and Duke, 99, have been self-isolating in Windsor Castle since March, but are now set to travel to Scotland next month.

Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been staying with George, seven, Charlotte, five, and two-year-old Louis in Norfolk at Anmer Hall.

Royal sources say the Queen will leave around August 1 by helicopter, when Covid restrictions on the over-70s will be lifted and the castle can reopen to tourists.

It has been previously reported Her Majesty and Philip will remain socially-distanced from rest of the family, who will stay in separate buildings during the stay.

One insider said: “Preparations are well under way.

“Everything will be checked and double-checked to ensure there is no risk.

“But it has also helped planning that Scotland has been free of coronavirus deaths for almost a week now.”

Each year, the Queen travels to the grand Balmoral Estate for around three months

The Queen went to Windsor Castle from Sandringham on March 19 for a planned extended Easter break.

When lockdown came a ring of protection dubbed “HMS Bubble” was placed around her.

Two teams of 12 staff have been working three-week shifts.

Meanwhile Prince Charles and Camilla spent most of lockdown at Birkhall, on the 50,000-acre Balmoral estate, but left earlier last month.

The Queen has spent a 12-week break at Balmoral every summer of her 68-year reign.

She normally stays at seven-bedroom Craigowan Lodge for a couple of weeks before moving into the castle after it is closed to tourists in early August.

But Balmoral has been shut during lockdown, allowing her to move immediately into the main house.

She usually attends Highland games at Braemar, but they have been cancelled.

The estate and its original castle were purchased privately by Prince Albert, consort to Queen Victoria, and to this day remain the private property of the Royal Family.
