KATE Middleton is said to have returned to “much simpler” hair and fashion style this year, as she no longer has to “compete” with glamorous Meghan Markle, according to an insider.

The Duchess of Sussex, 38, has officially stepped back from royal duties, and moved to LA with Prince Harry and Archie, and this has left Kate feeling more comfortable.

An insider told Fabulous: “Someone who knows Kate well said ‘the atmosphere since the Sussexes left has noticeably improved.

“Kate does not feel she has to compete now. She has gone back to a much simpler style’.

“Kate feels very much more relaxed now.

“She most definitely went through a phase two years ago where she seemed slightly intimidated by Meghan.

“She was afraid of comparisons being drawn between them and that Meghan was the one who looked glamorous and popular for a while.”

The source added that now pressure has been slightly lifted, Kate’s make up artist, Arabella Preston, is now using “less eye make up, paler lips colours and more high street nail polishes in less obvious shades.”

The source continued: “She wears far less make up and looks happy, relaxed and sporting high Street clothes.”

We recently saw Kate looking beautiful in an affordable, blush high street suit from Marks and Spencer as she visited the NHS 111 call centre in Croydon.

Although Kate always looks stunning, during her recent Dublin tour last month she opted for a shorter, sleek hairstyle, compared to her usual trademark long, bouncy locks.

She also recycled a number of previously-worn looks, including a white Reiss coat that she had from her pre-Duchess days, paired with dark jeans.

On a different outing, Kate could be seen wearing jeans once more and an olive-coloured Friel Utility Jacket from Dubarry of Ireland.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 38, recycled a scarlet 1940’s custom made coat dress by Catherine Walker as she arrived at Westminster Abbey earlier this month.

She completed the look with a floral fascinator, along with matching red Gianvito Rossi suede heels and a small clutch.

Meanwhile, Meghan stunned in a green Emilia Wickstead dress with matching William Chambers fascinator.

The Duchess of Sussex certainly grabbed attention for her show-stopping looks in the royal family, and was even named 2019’s most influential dresser by Lyst Index, with Kate coming in 11th place.

The former actress became renown for her love of designers like Givenchy, Chanel and Dior, with Femail estimating her wardrobe in her 22 months as a royal would have cost nearly £1million.
