The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s explosive announcement yesterday that they are quitting frontline royal duties has sent shockwaves through the royal family.

Oprah Winfrey is also said to have spoken to the Sussexes about setting up home in Los Angeles

The royal rebels now want to divide their time in North America between California and Canada, according to The New York Post’s Page Six.

Harry, 35, and Meghan, 38, want to be close to her mother, Doria Ragland, who is in southern California, with former actress Meghan also said to be keen to return to LA, where she once lived.

A source told Page Six: Meghan really wants to live in California, its where she is from and where her mother lives.

She likes the lifestyle and the privacy there.

‘HARRY IS BEING DRAGGED’

“She has been getting advice on the move from close friends, including Oprah and the Clooneys, and they have encouraged her that she and Harry can step away from the royal family and follow their own path.

Oprah, George and Amal Clooney were among the A-listers who attended Harry and Meghan’s dazzling Windsor wedding in May, 2018.

Another source told Page Six Harry was being “dragged” to LA by Meghan, who wants to “set herself up for the future”.

The source said: “Meghan is, at heart, an LA girl, she cares about money, power and prestige.

“I dont think she quite got the reception she wanted in the UK, to say the very least.

“When she was an actress, she was all about money she made deals on her blog The Tig, she made deals with the clothing she wore shed get paid for wearing a T-shirt and brag about it all sorts.

The couple released a statement confirming they will no longer be in the UK full time

“Although she wants to be near her mom Doria, she wants to set herself up for the future, and Harry is being dragged along for the ride.

If royal protection no longer provide security for the pair, they may have to pay “Hollywood-style security firms, who use ex-Mossad officers”, the source said.

Last night, the royal couple posted on Instagram they plan to “step back” from royal duties and split their time between Britain and North America – with Canada expected to be their second home.

Harry and Meghan were based in Canada for a six-week Christmas break, where it is said they mulled over their make or break decision to quit their royal roles.

They say they will be “financially independent” as they “carve out a progressive new role”, but will still support the Queen.

But their stunning exit from life as senior royals has left the Windsors reeling and the Queen “deeply upset”.

Harry ignored the Queen’s request not to make the explosive announcement that he and Meghan are quitting their duties – and the couple will now be “punished”, it is reported.

The Queen, 93, ordered her grandson not to drop the bombshell decision this week after Harry asked for a meeting with her at Sandringham, the Evening Standard reports.

Senior royal aides have warned that “Harry and Meghan will be punished for this following their astonishing move, it is claimed.

Despite quitting frontline royal duties, the Sussexes plan to keep their Frogmore Cottage home near Windsor Castle, which was given to Harry and Meghan, as a gift from the Queen.

The Grade-II listed property cost 2.4 million to renovate last year, with the taxpayer footing the bill.

A royal source told The Daily Mail: “It’s deeply unfair to the Queen who doesn’t deserve to be treated this way.

“It is a shoddy way to treat her. The family understands that they want to do something different and is perfectly willing to help them.

“People are just devastated.”

The Queen is said to be ‘disappointed’ that no other family members were consulted before the statement was sent out
