The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made a secret trip to Stanford University to discuss plans for their new charity.

Their decision to work with academics in California has raised more questions on whether the couple ever plan to return to the UK, having spent the weeks since their withdrawal from the senior royal life in Canada with their young son Archie.

Although Harry and Markle’s visit to the California university had not been announced beforehand, a Buckingham Palace source confirmed the visit to Hello Magazine, saying: “As part of their ongoing work to develop and build their new charitable organisation, they had a brainstorming session and meetings with academics and professors.”

It’s been a busy month for the Duke and Duchess, who have been working on ways to become “financially independent” since their shock decision to step back from the Royal Family.

The pair also spent time in Miami last week as they made an appearance at a summit hosted by US multi-national investment giant JP Morgan where experts believe they were paid up to 775,000.

It was the Sussexs first engagement since their split from the royal family and was heavily criticised, as the environmental activists who have previously railed against fossil fuel emissions . . . jeopardising the Earth, were seen to be supporting a bank that finances fossil fuel firms through their appearance.

On Thursday, Vogue editor Edward Enninful announced that the Duchess’ guest-edited edition of the magazine was the fastest-selling in the history of the British edition’s history.

Of the September 2019 issue, Meghan said in a statement: “These last seven months have been a rewarding process, curating and collaborating with Edward Enninful, British Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief, to take the year’s most-read fashion issue and steer its focus to the values, causes and people making impact in the world today.”

“Through this lens I hope you’ll feel the strength of the collective in the diverse selection of women chosen for the cover as well as the team of support I called upon within the issue to help bring this to light. I hope readers feel as inspired as I do, by the ‘Forces for Change’ they’ll find within these pages.”

In January, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex suggested on their official website that they were looking to start a new charitable foundation once moving to North America.

They wrote: “This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.”

It was yesterday revealed that Prince Harry was in talks with Goldman Sachs a year before Megxit, as he and Meghan Markle plotted to ditch the Royal Family.

Speculation surfaced this week that the Duke of Sussex was considering working with the controversial US finance firmto discuss mental health and the military.

Meghan and Harry’s Stanford trip comes as the couple axed their remaining royal staff members, one of the surest signs they do not plan on ever returning to Britain long-term.
