This year has been an eventful year for the couple who stepped down as senior royals in March and moved to Meghan’s home city of LA in the same month.

According to News Week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who spent the holiday in Canada last year, are “looking forward to celebrating their first American Thanksgiving in the states.”

The couple plan to enjoy a homecooked meal with traditional Thanksgiving dishes, including recipes made with fresh vegetables from their garden, reported Newsweek.

A source close to the family told BAZARR.com: “They are going to have a quiet dinner at home and are looking forward to celebrating their first American Thanksgiving in the States as a family.”

The source continues, “They plan to enjoy a home-cooked meal with traditional Thanksgiving dishes, including recipes made with fresh vegetables from their garden.”

UNBEARABLE GRIEF

According to People, a source said: “They are very happy … Archie is thriving and growing quickly. As a family, they spend hours outside.”

This comes as the Duchess bravely revealed she had a miscarriage in July, causing both her and Harry “unbearable grief”.

The 39-year-old wrote of the moment she knew she was “losing” her second baby in a deeply personal essay for the New York Times.

Recalling the devastating morning in July, the duchess said she had been looking after her son Archie, who would have been about 14-months-old at the time, when she felt a “sharp cramp”.

In the moving piece, she wrote: “After changing his diaper, I felt a sharp cramp. I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right.

“I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second. Hours later, I lay in a hospital bed, holding my husband’s hand.

“I felt the clamminess of his palm and kissed his knuckles, wet from both our tears. Staring at the cold white walls, my eyes glazed over. I tried to imagine how we’d heal.”

Meghan said she had decided to speak out about her loss because miscarriage was still a taboo subject which led to a “cycle of solitary mourning”.

Writing an opinion piece in the New York Times to lift the stigma around miscarriage and urging others to talk about it, Meghan said: “So this Thanksgiving, as we plan for a holiday unlike any before—many of us separated from our loved ones, alone, sick, scared, divided and perhaps struggling to find something, anything, to be grateful for—let us commit to asking others, ‘Are you OK?’”

In the touching essay, she added: “Sitting in a hospital bed, watching my husband’s heart break as he tried to hold the shattered pieces of mine, I realized that the only way to begin to heal is to first ask, ‘Are you OK?’”

Last year the Sussexes spent Archie’s first Thanksgiving in Vancouver Island after taking six weeks away from royal duties.

The pair were spotted on a hike and helped a couple take a selfie – which revealed their Christmas 2019 destination after it had been kept fairly quiet.

Their holiday home was reportedly a $14million mansion, owned by Canadian musician David Foster.

Meghan and Harry had planned to return to the UK to spend Christmas with the royal family, but had to change plans due to Covid-19.

They are expected to spend the festive season in California.
