According to Prince Harry, Meghan often asks to switch more lights on at home

Speaking on the programme, he said his dad has always drilled into him the importance of not wasting energy and is a stickler for switching off lights.

He added: And thats now something that Im obsessed with as well.

My wife certainly goes, Well, why turn the lights off? You know, its dark.

I go, We only need one light, we dont need like six.

The new dad also revealed that he was picked on at school for having a habit that other kids thought was unusual.

He added: I used to get taken the mickey out of at school for just picking up rubbish.

When you go for walks anywhere, if you see something, it stands out, you pick it up.

Before you know it, somebody [says], ‘What are you doing?’

I’ve literally done this because I am programmed to do it because my father did it. And actually, we should all be doing it.”

Prince William said on the documentary, which was released last year, that the family used to go litter-picking for as a fun hobby.

The Duke of Cambridge, 37, explained: He [Prince Charles] took us litter picking when we were younger. On holiday!

“We were in Norfolk… And again, both of us thought this is perfectly normal, everyone must do it.

We were there with our spikes stabbing the rubbish into black plastic bags.”

Prince Charles has been vocal about his fear of plastic and damage to the environment, and seems to have instilled this in his two sons.

Prince Harry recentlylaunched a sustainable travel initiative called Travalyst, which aims to “encourage sustainable tourism practices” across the industry.

It has been launched in collaboration with Booking.com, Ctrip, Skyscanner, TripAdvisor and Visa.

Harry said: “Sometimes the scale of the conservation crisis feels overwhelming and that individual actions can’t make a difference.

“I’ve certainly felt that – but I’ve learned that we cannot dismiss the idea of trying to do something, just because we can’t do everything.”

The launch came justafter he was criticised for jetsetting on four private planes in just 11 daysduring the summer.
