THE ROYAL family featured heavily on our screens over Christmas, and even crept into the festive special of Gavin and Stacey.

Ruth Jones, who co-wrote the sitcom and stars as Nessa, has revealed how the Christmas Day episode paid tribute to Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and Kate Middleton.

Stacey’s children are named Harri, Meghan and Caitlin

The most recent episode featured Gavin and Staceys three children Harri, Meghan and Caitlin, which was inspired by one of the characters love of royals.

Ruth, 53, explained: It was a little nod to Pam’s love of the royal family, we wanted it to be transferred through Gavin into their name choices.

“So it is a little nod to the royal family.”

The Christmas special smashed its rivals with the best Christmas Day TV ratings since 2008, pulling in 12.31million viewers.

Fans are already begging for moreafter the episode ended in a cliffhanger.

The episode, written by and starring James Corden and Ruth Jones, revisited Gavin, Stacey, Smithy and Nessa nearly ten years after they left our screens.

It ended with Nessa, played by Ruth, 53, proposing to Smithy (Corden, 41).
