PRINCE Andrew had a subtle dig at Meghan and Harry ahead of his daughter’s wedding.

The Duke of York insisted Princess Eugenie’s nuptials would be more family-focused than the Sussexes’ extravagant affair, before suggesting they had far fewer friends.

He made the awkward comment during an interview on This Morning in the run up to the big day.

It was the second royal wedding of the year, with Harry and Meghan tying the knot in May 2018 before Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s ceremony in October.

Both were held at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle and were broadcast live on TV.

But discussing how his daughter’s wedding would be different to the Duke of Sussex’s, Andrew said: “It will not be the same as the previous one that was held in May.

“This is not a public wedding, this is meant to be a family wedding.”

He then went on to compare the guestlists of the two events after Eugenie and Jack invited 850 people compared to Meghan and Harry’s 600.

“There’ll be a few more people than most people have,” the duke said.

“There are a few more than Harry had, but that’s just the nature of Eugenie and Jack – they’ve got so many friends that they need a church of that size to fit them all in.”

Viewers quickly accused him of stirring up drama between the couples, who have been close since they were children.

One person said on Twitter at the time: “Throwing some shade there duke lol.”

Another wrote: “So seems like a competition for him.”

And a third posted: “Hum! So Harry has not got so many friends.”

Others put his remarks down to “always being competitive with his brothers’ children”.

Andrew has long been jealous of the media attention William and Harry receive compared to his daughters Eugenie and Beatrice, it is claimed.

A source previously told HOAR how he felt they were being “overshadow” by their cousins, and it will only get worse as they get older.

“He fears that they will be totally side-lined when the Queen dies,” they added.
