PRINCE Harry feared Meghan would have a meltdown over her toxic life in Britain prompting them to quit as senior royals.

HOAR on Sunday reports that the Duke of Sussex, 35, was concerned his wife was on the brink in the run-up to their bombshell announcement.

Prince Harry feared his wife would have a ‘meltdown’ if she stayed in the UK

And LA-born Meghan, 38, has told pals that a move to Canada will be a welcome escape from her toxic life in the UK, the Mail on Sunday reports.

On Wednesday, the couple announced on Instagram they plan to “step back” from royal duties and split their time between Britain and North America.

The news rocked Buckingham Palace as the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William, 37, were only given 10 minuties notice before the message was posted on social media.

And the following day, Meghan returned to the couples luxury bolthole on Vancouver Island, Canada where they spent six weeks over Christmas – leaving Harry to deal with the fallout.

A source said tonight: The statement was rushed out and part of the reason for that is that Harry knew he needed to take swift action.

“Meghan has not settled in the UK and he knows that and wants her to be happy.

And it has got worse recently, with their spell in Canada helping to cement her view that the family would be better off out of the spotlight and spending more time there.

He feared staying in the UK too long would lead to Meghan having a meltdown. That is why things moved so quickly.

There were concerns for the couple during their trip to South Africa last year.

The pair spoke to ITV’s Tom Bradby about their struggles with fame while Harry revealed he’s grown apart from William.

Mr Bradby later told US breakfast show Good Morning America that he found the royal couple “bruised” and “vulnerable.”

He said: “The reality I found was just a couple that seemed a bit bruised and vulnerable with mental health and all the rest of it you have to be careful what words you use that was the story I found and it seemed the right journalistic thing to do, to try and tell that story as empathetically as I could.

“We had a couple of private heart-to-hearts before we did the interview and I said lets just go out and tell the truth as you see it’.

The thing about Harry is, whether in private or in public, if you ask him an honest question hell give you an honest answer, for better or worse.”
