ANDREW Marr has branded the TV drama The Crown “unfair and sadistic”.

And the veteran journalist claims it could damage the Royal Family.

Netflix hit series The Crown ‘could damage the Royal Family,’ Andrew Marr warns

Andrew Marr is a historian as well as a journalist

Historian Marr, 61, says the fourth season of the Netflix series presents its version of the marriage of the Prince and Princess of Wales as truth.

It portrays Charles as a bully, whose neglect and affair with Camilla Parker Bowles drives Diana to despair.

But Marr said: “If they announced, ‘This is drama, it’s fiction, it’s entertainment’, you would say it’s brilliant.

“But when you start to say, ‘This is the truth about these people’s lives’, it’s grossly unfair and really quite sadistic.

“It’s so convincingly acted people may think it’s the truth, and it isn’t.

The Crown’s portrayal of Charles and Diana’s marriage is ‘unfair and sadistic’, Marr said

He added about the series, in which Olivia Colman plays the Queen: “If I was one of the Royal Family, I would be utterly, utterly horrified.”

Marr’s documentary series New Elizabethans, about the Queen’s reign, starts on BBC One on December 3.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles’ close pal Sir Nicholas Soames, who is Winston Churchill’s grandson, has accused The Crown of “deliberate mischief-making.”
