CORONATION Street aired a classic blunder last night when Liz McDonald answered a switched-off mobile phone.

Liz, played by Beverley Callard, was so quick to answer a call from son Steve, she forgot to turn it on.

Viewers of the ITV soap saw Liz’s phone ringing as she stood in the queue at Roy’s Rolls and she raced to accept the call.

But as she greeted Steve with an enthusiastic: “Buenos dias, son!” fans noticed that the screen was black.

Soon social media lit up with reactions to the clanger.

“Phone ringing was it? #Corrie.”

While another commented: “Phone not lighting up Liz! #corrie.”

The show is no stranger to blunders. Just last week, the emotional death of Sinead Tinker was ‘spoilt’ for some fans when the soap made a gaffe.

Her husband Daniel Osbourne’s whereabouts caused a bit of a stir among some fans who felt the show pushed the boundaries of credibility.

Although Weatherfield, where the soap is set is relatively small, some eyebrows were raised as Rob Mallard’s character managed to be by Sinead’s bedside and in the blink of an eye, wash and change to be with the Barlow family in scenes shortly after.

This came after moments before he was seen in a boozed-up state in the ginnel.

Despite being wrapped up in the emotion of the long-running plotline, which Kate McGlynn worked on alongside charity Mummy’s Star, fans couldn’t help be a little distracted.

One took to Twitter to bluntly comment: “F**king hell, does everyone own a Tardis suddenly!”
