But Geoff has never mentioned Elaine, only his late ex-wife Tess, who Tim believes is his mother.

So has Geoff been lying to his son for most of his life? Here’s the lowdown on Geoff and Elaine’s history…

What’s the history between Geoff and Elaine in Coronation Street?

Where do we start? Elaine left her abusive marriage to Geoff in 1973 after his abuse left her fearing for her life.

And when Geoff refused to let her take Tim – who was only a one-year-old baby at the time –  Elaine was forced to flee without him.

Geoff and Elaine officially divorced in 1974 but Geoff told everyone that she had died of breast cancer.

Geoff then married Elaine’s former best friend Tess later that year and moved to Wales, where the newlyweds let everyone including Tim believe that Tess was his birth mother.

Has Elaine changed her name in Coronation Street?

Yes, Elaine was previously called Philippa but changed her name after fleeing from Geoff.

Her decision came after the abuser threatened to kill her if she ever returned or tried to contact Tim.

As a result Elaine hasn’t seen Geoff or Tim since she fled to Bolton in 1973, but was drawn to the cobbles when she spotted Yasmeen’s case in the press.

Elaine was once called Philippa but changed her name after leaving Geoff

What really happened with Tim’s mum Tess?

Corrie fans will know that Geoff has always maintained to Tim that his mother Tess was an evil alcoholic who abandoned him when he was a child.

And as part of his ongoing mission to paint himself as the victim, Geoff has claimed to have suffered abuse at her hands.

After dropping the assault charges he brought against Yasmeen, the master manipulator appeared to open up as he recalled being a victim of physical abuse.

But speaking to RadioTimes.com earlier this year, Ian Bartholomew teased that Geoff had not been completely honest about his relationship with Tess.

Actor Ian said: “Geoff has basically lied to Tim for years about what really happened with his mother, Geoff’s first wife.

“We will be exploring things a little deeper which I’ve always wanted to do. It would be good to find out more about their past, it could be key to how the story develops.”

Will Elaine reveal more about why Geoff’s relationship with Tess really broke down?

Elaine will try and turn Tim against Geoff in Coronation Street in the coming weeks

Is Elaine going to turn Tim against Geoff in Coronation Street?

Elaine is set to reveal the truth to Tim this week (July 29) after learning that he’s still siding with his dad.

But when Elaine tries to convince Tim of Geoff’s true colours, Tim is quick to run to his dad.

Geoff then manages to persuade Tim that Elaine is a liar and to get in touch with the police if she tries to contact him again.

But when Sally gets wind of the incident, she drums into Tim that there might be some truth to Elaine’s claims.

Tim is left starting to doubt his father – but will he turn against him?

Joe Duttine – who plays Tim – has teased that his character is getting closer to turning against his dad as Yasmeen’s trial looms.

Speaking to Inside Soap, the actor said: “Remember that Tim isn’t aware of what the rest of the nation knows about Geoff.

“Tim only reacts to the interactions he has with his dad, and he doesn’t want to believe that he could do anything wrong. Some families have to close ranks and protect their own, which is what Tim is doing. But I think Tim is starting to feel as if something isn’t quite right.”

The actor added: “Tim will see cracks in the picture he has of Geoff.

“It’s a slow burn, and Tim’s remaining loyal to his dad until the stage he can no longer do so. We may be getting closer to that stage.”
